Re: Request a stoma bag yourself

Hi Louise, I asked about a ileostomy as like yourself for 13 years I was fed up of living half a life, the other half I spent in the toilet. Four years on and I can't tell how pleasant it has been not to have to worry about where the nearest toilet is, no pain or "accidents". If I was driving down a...

Re: Purple Wings

No chance here rogalin, last time the camera broke and when I smiled my face cracked. I'm afraid this 70 year old body isn't even worth looking at when fully clothed, and my face is that lined when I fell asleep in a Motorway Services someone traced their route to Portsmouth using my face. I wish yo...

Re: Pain in rectal stump following a total colectomy

Hi Clara, I had the Total Proctectomy in Feb this year, it involved a hospital stay of six days but did take a few months to settle down. I am really glad I had it done, and wouldn't hesitate to have it done again in the same circumstances, an infected stump can be nuisance. I would recommend having...

Re: Post Birth Flare Up- Struggling

Hi there, Colitis can be a particularly debilitating disease and you need all the help you can get from your GP and if you have access to one a Colorectal specialist nurse. It's all the running to the toilet that makes you feel so tired, ask if it is ok to take Loperamide, they really can help to ca...

Re: Recently diagnosed colitis

Hi John, some great advice from Karencraig and Rogalin, then again I wouldn't expect anything less from the "Dynamic Duo" of the Colitis world  I suffered for over 12 years before deciding that enough was enough and opting to take the damn colon away, but that's another story or two! Have you t...

Hi, any side effects from the steroids disappear quite quickly one you start tapering off them, so I wouldn't worry about them, the benefits they give far outweigh any short term use. Phil

Re: Nasty flare up

Hi, unfortunately these are the symptoms of UC, you might need steroid tablets instead of the suppositories, I always found the suppositories wouldn't stay in when having a bad flare up. You are definitely not dying, you will feel washed out with the continual running to the loo which will make you ...
