Hi Everyone,

I have never used a forum before but in desperate need of answers please.

My Fiance is 35 years old & has suffered with Colitis for 3 years now and has been on almost all meds going!
He is currently going through yet another relapse and now concidering surgery due to feeling so poorly and not enjoying life on so many drugs and exaustion from the illness.

His Specialist is trying all medications possible before he submits Steve to have the surgery and the latest option is to start taking Thioguanine - has anyone else tried this drug for Colitis? I have googled the drug and it says that this drug is usually used to treat Lukemia and has some awful side effects.

It has always been in our future to try for children and we are extremely concerned that this drug or surgery is ruling out our dreams to have children.

Can anyone give me advise?

Me:
Im 25 years old, we have been together just over 3 and a half years and desperate to marry & have children.
I work full time and really struggling with the stress and worry over Steve's illness and the decisions we face on surgery.

Thanks in advance for any help xx

With all surgery there is a risk, I personally know two people who have had the op & can assure you they are fine in that department, the drug is used to treat Leukaemia but when used for UC is a far lower dose & any side effects would go if the surgery option was taken as he would no longer need drugs.

So did the person you know undergo the surgery and then have children?

Did they try the drug Thioguanine?

Was this person male or female?

Ps sorry for all the questions :)

Thanks for your help x

One has had children after the op & the other we will say works fine (both male), the surgery risks are impotence due to nerves being damaged around that area during the op but in reality this is a rare thing, they had not been on Thioguanine but have been treated with other types of these immune drugs.

Thats great news they both went on to have Children.

I think we are going to try our best to avoid Thioguanine as no one seems to have experienced this drug with Colitis.
